To impart holistic value legal education to Social Engineers and empower the citizenry for just and human society. Our vision includes not only to produce socially sensitive eminent lawyers but also to become stellar legal institute of Social Justice.
Objectives
1. To impart legal education and to inculcate the principles of Justice, Equity, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, Dignity in the minds of the students and to promote National Integration.
2. To impart high sense of Legal, Social, Moral values among students and to discover and develop overall personality in disciplined environment.
3. To create Legal Awareness especially in the weaker sections of the society by providing free legal services.
4. To sensitize the students regarding socio-legal issues of the country and to foster Rule of Law enshrined in the Constitution of India.
5. To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and applied practice.

Welcome to Shahaji Law College, Kolhapur

The Council of Education was established under the auspicious leadership of Late Dr. Ratnappa Kumbhar.
We take pride in being guided by late Dr. Ratnappa Kumbhar, who was a reputed Freedom Fighter social reformer,
notable senior political leader, and educationist and honored as “Sahakar Maharshee”. He was awarded by Doctorate
by Poona University and Padmashree by Government of India.

Shahaji Law College is one of the reputed law colleges in India and especially in the state of Maharashtra. It is always on the forefront of highest values and imparting legal education since 1933. His highness, the late Shri Rajaram Chatrapati Maharaja of Kolhapur who was always very keen about legal education constituted a committee in December 1932 headed by Rao Bahadur A. B. Chougule the then Chief justice of Kolhapur state. By notification 52 of 1933, the state Gazette declared that “The Council of Legal Education”, a body consisting of seven ex-officio members to run the Law College on 17th June, 1933. The college was formally inaugurated on 2nd November 1933 at the hands of Sir Fredric sykes, the then Governor of Bombay and named as ‘ Sykes Law College’ Kolhapur. Shri. S. K. Kelavakar, Barrister-at-Law was the first Principal of this college, his highness Major Sir. Chatrapati Shahaji Maharaj and the founder President of the Council of Education Dr. Padmashri Rathnappanna Kumbhar was first student of this college. Under the able and noble leadership of Dr. Rathnappanna Kumbhar, the council of legal education was renamed as council of education and sykes Law College renamed as “Shahaji Law College”. Since then the college administered efficiently according to Annas vision. .

President Message

Shahaji Law College is one of the reputed law colleges in the western Maharashtra. The founders of this institution laid the foundation stone with the sole purpose of providing quality legal education,economics being not even as remote ulterior motive. The college has stood the test of time in providing the quality legal education to the poor, downtrodden apart from catering to the needs of middle class and affluent.
